Childcare Support

At New Town Nests, we know that modern life doesn’t always make things easy for families — especially those balancing demanding careers, neurodivergence, or the unpredictable nature of parenting. That’s why we are soon going to be able to offer in-home childcare alongside the rest of our otters support methods that’s as flexible, respectful, and responsive as you need it to be

Over the years, I’ve worked closely with many families and seen just how hard it can be to manage everything. I started New Town Nests with one mission: to ensure no parent has to choose between providing for their children and maintaining a safe, secure, and supported home. Our childcare service is a natural extension of that mission — one that’s practical, personal, and rooted in real-life needs.

We’re not a nursery or a full-time childminding service. Instead, we provide tailored support where and when it’s needed most:

  • During the school run

  • While you’re prepping dinner or working from home

  • As postnatal help for new mums (including doula support)

  • In those short but essential windows where an extra pair of hands makes all the difference

Our carers are all PVG-checked, experienced professionals handpicked from trusted agencies. But more importantly, they are warm, capable, and fully aligned with our values of dignity, compassion, and care.

You can choose dedicated childcare support only, or we can find someone who offers more general home help with light childcare included, depending on your needs.

SHANARRI: How We Support Your Child’s Wellbeing

Our approach is guided by Scotland’s SHANARRI wellbeing indicators — the foundation of Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC). Here’s how we support each aspect of your child’s wellbeing:

  • The SHANARRI Wellbeing Indicators:
Here’s how we aim to bring the SHANARRI values to life in everyday practice:

    ·       Safe – At New Town Nests, safety means more than just checks and procedures. It’s about families knowing they can trust us in their homes and with their children. All of our staff are PVG-certified, carefully vetted, and chosen for their reliability as much as their skills. We aim to create a calm, predictable atmosphere that helps both children and adults feel secure — especially in households that may already feel stretched or under pressure.

    ·       Healthy – We know that “healthy” looks different in every home. For some families, it’s about nutritious meals and tidy spaces; for others, it’s about having the breathing room to rest and reset. Whether we’re giving a new mum the chance to recover while we handle the washing-up, or supporting a child’s after-school routine, our focus is always on building habits and environments that support both physical and emotional wellbeing.

    ·       Achieving – Life runs smoother when families have the right support behind them. By lightening the load of household tasks, routines, and childcare, we help parents focus on work, recovery, or simply having more quality time together. For children, that might mean us being there to encourage routines and learning through play; for adults, it might be about creating order in the home so they can reach their own goals.

    ·       Nurtured – Our work is rooted in connection. We don’t just turn up with a checklist — we come in with warmth, empathy, and understanding. Families tell us they value the non-judgemental, steady presence we bring. We build trust by listening, adapting, and treating every household as unique, so that both children and parents feel supported and cared for.

    ·       Active – We encourage children and families to stay active in ways that work for them. This might mean outdoor play after school, keeping up with clubs and activities, or simply structuring routines so there’s space for fun and movement. We’re there to make sure households don’t get stuck in “survival mode,” but instead keep space for activity and joy.

    ·       Respected – Every family has its own rhythms, values, and priorities, and we always respect that. We don’t impose one way of doing things — instead, we listen and adapt so our support fits seamlessly into your life. From cultural preferences to neurodivergent routines, we treat every household with dignity and respect.

    ·       Responsible – We see our role as walking beside families, not taking over. For children, this means encouraging age-appropriate independence — whether that’s building confidence with routines or supporting them in small daily tasks. For parents, it means working together to create systems and support that make the home run more smoothly, without removing their ownership or control.

    ·       Included – Inclusion is at the heart of what we do. We work with single parents, working couples, neurodivergent families, and high-pressure households, always making sure our service feels approachable and welcoming. Everyone deserves to feel that support is available and without judgement — and at New Town Nests, that’s exactly what we provide.
